As a WAHM of two kids, I’ve had to come to grips with the fact that there are only 24 hours in a day. That’s it. And as of course, I only have two hands. Phone apps can only do so much. Plus, I require at least seven hours of sleep. I mean, I think I can get by on six, but my family disagrees.
It’s taken me a long time to accept these facts. I kept thinking I could somehow bend time to accommodate my unreasonable expectations.
I can schedule and time-block, and make plan A, B, and C, but the reality is, my time is finite. I feel that more now than I ever have before. I want to do it all, be everything to everyone, and disappoint no one, least of all myself.
Do you feel me?
My biggest revelation this year has been to do fewer things, with more focus. Be choosy. Figure out my priorities, and then trim back some more, because let’s face it… the things that really matter can be counted one hand.
In this restructuring of my life, schedule, and priorities, I’ve discovered a fun little opportunity has opened up. Free minutes here and there. Imagine that! When I have the space to breathe, I notice free minutes all around me.
So my new mission is to find my free minutes and use them to refresh myself. I can’t think of a better use of them. I grab myself a treat, like Crunchkins™ dessert-flavored poppers, and savor the free time.
Want some ideas for free minutes?
5 minute manicure– no need to bother with polish (definitely fun if you have the time though), a little filing and a beautifully scented lotion can be so uplifting
pick-up lane me-time– tuck some Crunchkins™ and a travel beverage in your bag & munch while listening to the radio or catching up on podcasts. I even have a stash of magazine with me. The car is in park, what else are you going to do?
audiobook zen– I love to listen to audiobooks while getting ready in the morning or making dinner. Ain’t no shame in turning on a movie so Mama (or Dad) can cook in peace.
relax with tea– ten minutes with a cup of tea & a book do a world of good for me. I pick a light read or something inspirational, and always get a smile with my favorite bookmark. I tend to read at the end of the day; even a short amount of time can be calming before bed.
phone a friend– texting is life, but when you call a friend for a spur-of-the-moment conversation, you’ll plan to do it more often, I promise.
one-on-one time with the kids– so this is definitely not “me time”, but it’s heart-warming to spend some time catch-up with one of your kiddos. Isn’t it amazing what they say when they have a captive audience? Share a treat and get ready to laugh.
My favorite Crunchkins™ are the the Fudge Brownie flavor. Birthday Cake & Glazed Donut are delicious as well, and perfect to share. They are available at Walmart at check out. Gotta love dessert-flavored poppers with a creamy coating and a light crunch center. Yum! Open up a pack and enjoy!
