This week kinda kicked my butt. I think all the adrenaline that comes with giving birth has worn off. I’m actually getting more sleep now than I did a month ago, and I’m more tired. What’s up with that??
After I had my daughter, the nurses asked me to move from the bed to a wheelchair, so they could wheel me down to my hospital room to stay. I hopped out of bed, feeling great. I guess the nurses expected me to be hurting a bit more? One remarked, “Wow, I wish I had your energy!”
I thought, are you kidding me? I just successfully pushed a human being out! I’m done giving birth, like forever. I get to spend time with my baby now! I could do cartwheels down the hallway, I’m so happy.
Well, my friends, that energy has escaped me. Instead, I’m counting the days & weeks until Little Missy is three months. Or at least old enough to smile. That’ll be cool. Don’t get me wrong, I love the newborn days too. But, in my memory? It only gets better with each milestone.
In the meantime, I’ll grab sleep when I can get it, and try to take more pictures of daily life. This week I took none. So instead of sharing those, I’ll fill you on some good reading material that I discovered during late night feedings.
Dooce is an amazing writer. Period. So even though her stories about human trafficking in SouthEast Asia are hard to read, they are so worth your time. Both to learn more about the topic and to appreciate a talented writer.
Yeah, yeah, the obligatory “newborn baby” article. But seriously, this one is concise, clever, and full of good tips.
My friend Whitney writes the blog Playdates on Fridays, and has so many insightful things to say about parenting and being a woman. Her article on feminism (in light of the recent Hobby Lobby ruling) is so on point for me.
And finally…the Bachelorette. I’ve only watched one other season (Ashley & J.P.) but it seemed like the perfect light & fluffy show to watch when I was up timing contractions. I’m so glad I caught this one… I love Andi. Now I’m reading every article (warning! possible spoilers!) & blog I can find and speculating like crazy. I want her to pick Marcus!
I promise baby pictures (if you’re into that sort of thing) next week. Have a good one, kids!
